Morning: Museum Casa del Alabado

To really learn about the history and culture of Ecuador, there is no way around the museums of Quito. Ecuador has a rich and proud history, evidenced by the city's beautiful colonial villas.

We dedicate the morning to the pre-colonial history: the early history can be discovered, for example, in the museum Casa del Alabado. The completely restored and renovated house is one of the oldest in the country - above the arch of the entrance, there is a prayer inscription (an 'Alabado') from 1671.

Two beautiful courtyards lead you through various exhibitions, with a focus on the pre-Columbian universe. The exhibition takes you on a journey through the times of Shamanism, to the emphasis on material wealth, and further to a cosmos of energy and light.

Afternoon: Colonial Heritage and Guayasamín Museum

The Museum of Colonial Art is situated in a villa from the late 16th century. After a five-year renovation, the exhibition "Art and Living in Ancient Quito" is now on display. More than 1500 works from the 16th to 19th centuries, furniture, textiles, coins and important documents give a broad overview of the country's changing history. One focus is on the religious life of the city which had its basis in Convento Agustín.

At the end of the day, we visit the museum of the most famous painter of Ecuador: Oswaldo Guayasamín. His paintings are mostly displayed in Museum Fondación Guayasamín, with a few also residing in the nearby Capilla del Hombre - the Chapel of Man.
