Puñihuil: A Natural Wonder – The Fascinating Penguin Colony in the Pacific
This exclusive excursion takes you from Chiloé to the wild north-west coast, to the Puñihuil Natural Monument, one of South America’s most fascinating marine protected areas. The biological phenomenon of this protected bay is unique in the world: it is the only known place where Humboldt and Magellanic penguins peacefully establish their breeding colonies side by side on the same islands. The journey begins with a scenic drive through rolling hills, offering spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Upon arrival at Puñihuil beach, participants board modern, sturdy boats specially designed for safe navigation and excellent visibility. Under the expert guidance of local guides, we head for the offshore rocky islets. At close quarters, yet with due respect for the wildlife, you can observe these charming birds as they breed, preen their feathers and perform their skilful dives. As well as hundreds of penguins, the cliffs are also home to other rare species such as the Chilean sea otter and majestic seabirds. The entire expedition is conducted at a perfectly organised, leisurely pace, offering plenty of opportunity for first-class photo opportunities. After the boat trip, the picturesque bay invites you to let your gaze wander over the horizon and round off the excursion at a select restaurant right by the sea, where freshly caught fish and local specialities are served. An unforgettable nature experience for discerning explorers who appreciate authenticity and scenic beauty.
