Lagune De los Tres
The hike to Laguna de los Tres is one of the most exciting in the region and takes you to the foot of Mount Chaltén. This natural viewpoint is the closest to the mythical walls of Mount Fitz Roy and the surrounding granite peaks.
The hike begins at the end of Avenida San Martín, where the urban area of El Chaltén ends and the parking lot is located. For the first hour, the path climbs steeply up to a viewpoint overlooking the valley of the river De las Vueltas.
The trail continues along the Del Salto stream, which flows into the valley towards Monte Fitz Roy. After about an hour and a half, you will reach a well-signposted viewpoint on a rock.
The trail follows the Del Salto stream up to the catchment area of Laguna Madre e Hija. Four hours from the starting point, you reach the Poincenot base camp and, after crossing the Río Blanco, its base camp (for climbers only).
From here, the trail climbs steeply for about 400 meters to Laguna de los Tres, which requires more than an hour of effort.
The trail ends on the crest of the old moraine of the De los Tres glacier and offers an exceptional view of the lagoon and the glacier. Here you have the best view of the granite wall of Mount Fitz Roy and the surrounding peaks.
