Gold mine in Zaruma

15 minutes from the city of Zaruma is the goldmine "El Sexmo". The mine is today one of the most important sights of the city. A colonial-time place where gold was mined for the King of Spain. The mine is no longer in operation and can be visited. Admission is free and the mine is open from 08:00-12:00 pm and from 13:00-16:00 pm.
