Devil's Nose Train
The train ride takes you in about 1.5 hours from the station in Alausí through a dramatic descent on the flanks of the famous mountain "Nariz del Diablo" - "Devil's Nose". The biggest complication in the construction of the Trans-Andean Railway was the Devil's Nose, a mountain with almost vertical slopes. To overcome this obstacle, a zigzag railway was built, covering more than 500 metres in altitude in less than 12 kilometres of steep ascents and descents. To this day, it remains an impressive piece of engineering. Enjoy the breathtaking descent and the view of the narrow gorge of the Chanchán River.
