Hot springs in Papallacta and to Tena
After breakfast, make your way to the beautiful hot springs of Papallacta. Through vegetation that constantly changes, this drive is absolutely breath taking. After about 1.5 hours, you will arrive at a high plateau with the enchanting hot springs of Papallacta at 3,800 meters. Take a dip in the hot springs and enjoy lunch in the restaurant before continuing your journey to Tena (about 2.5 hours). Your Amazon Lodge, Hakuna Matata, is wildly romantic and is located just outside Tena on a river in the middle of nature.
Chocolate walk and Pacari chocolate production
On the second day you can explore the area surrounding the lodge. An extensive walk along the river reveals the lush nature of the Amazon. After a late breakfast, you will take a walk through a cocoa plantation. In the afternoon, drive back to Tena and visit the chocolate producer Pacari, where you can taste the delicious cocoa. In the evening you can enjoy the fantastic restaurant of the rainforest lodge.
Baños, Tungurahua and Chimborazo
Baños is a lively town and is certainly worth your precious time. There are various delicacies to taste, made from sugar cane. Stay at the Hotel La Posada del Arte (or similar). It is quite possible that you will see and hear the Tungurahua, because it is an active volcano which regularly spits since 1998, although this poses no danger to you and your family. An incredible natural drama.
Around noon you continue to the highest mountain in Ecuador, the Chimborazo. Spend a night at Chimborazo Lodge overlooking the volcano.
Baños and the road of the volcanoes
From Baños you drive back to Quito the next day along the Avenue of Volcanoes. Make a stop in Ambato to try the national dish of Ecuador - guinea pigs from the grill. Depending on the day of the week you can stop in Latacunga to visit the large market, then continue to the foot of the Cotopaxi volcano. The Hacienda La Cienega is great place or a pause to enjoy a snack and coffee. The famous scientist Alexander Humboldt briefly lived at La Ciénega. When the Cotopaxi National Park is open, drive up to the hut and take a small hike with the magnificent view. Arrive in Quito early evening.
