Day 1

5 Hour Hike

Morning: Early in the morning you will be collected by your guide, who will transfer you to Cayambe Coca National Park. After a scenic two hour drive, you will reach the starting point of the guided hike, nestled in the lush greenery of the Cayambe Coca National Park. Soak up the panoramic mountain views, including the volcano Antisana at over 4,200 meters before setting off on the narrow curved paths through the impressive, ever-changing vegetation. The hike takes about 4 hours and, for the mountaineers among us, it is well suited for acclimatisation. After a descent from 4,200 meters to 3,600 meters you reach the park entrance above the thermal baths of Papallacta. From there you continue to your hotel and the thermal springs.

Papallacta Hot Springs

Afternoon: In the early afternoon, you will reach the famous hot springs of the small resort of Papallacta, located in the magical setting of the high Andes. Here, travellers can enjoy a long soak in the rejuvenating, warm spring water and the fresh mountain air and the afternoon light. The mineral content of the water is said to have skin-friendly and healing properties. In clear visibility conditions, you may be able to look over the Antisana Volcano from your place in the springs. In the early evening you can enjoy watching as the sun sets and the special dusk light falls.

Day 2

Hike through Rancho del Cañon

Morning: The Papallacta Lodge owns Rancho del Cañon, a protected area of humid forest spanning a whopping 625 acres. The trails located in this ranch offer hikers encounters with a staggering array of local wildlife amongst the beautiful leafy forest. Stop in at the research center in the reserve, where you will receive audiovisual information about the unique ecosystem that can only be found around Papallacta.

Papallacta Hot Springs

Depending on the weather and hiking conditions, you may have time for another soak in the hot springs before heading back to Quito.
