Day 1

Cotopaxi National Park and Limpiopungo

Early in the morning, the trip begins along the famous "road of the volcanoes" from Quito towards the south. Our first stop is the Cotopaxi National Park and the lagoon Limpiopungo. The Cotopaxi is the highest active volcano in the world. Enjoy the breathtaking panorama during an easy walk. Afterwards we stop at Hacienda "Cienega", which was visited by Humboldt and then a visit to the traditional market of Latacunga or Ambato to taste guinea pigs from the grill. We continue along the road of the volcanoes to Baños. Overnight in the ***Hotel La Posada del Arte (or same type).

Day 2

Baños and surroundings

The lively town of Baños is located at the foot of the Tungurahua Volcano. Since 1998 it has been active and regularly spitting lava and ash. For the visitors, it is a spectacular natural view. Baños has a spring weather throughout the year. Its center offers many artisan shops, small restaurants and sweets from sugar cane. From Baños you can take a trip to Puyo, the gateway to the Ecuadorian rainforest. Here we meet the shaman and Shuar chief Tzamarenda Naychapi for lunch to taste the typical food from the community. Afterwards we experience a cleaning ritual at a waterfall. In the late afternoon we return to Baños. Overnight in the ***Hotel La Posada del Arte (or same type).

Day 3

Hike at the volcano Chimborazo

Early in the morning we drive to the extinct volcano Chimborazo, Ecuador's highest mountain with over 6,300 meters. At the foot of the majestic giant we take a walk to enjoy the great view of the top of the mountain, which already fascinated Alexander von Humboldt. In the afternoon we continue to Riobamba. Overnight in the ***Hotel Hacienda Abraspungo (or same type).

Day 4

From the Devil's nose over Ingapirca to Cuenca

Very early in the morning we go to the station of Alausí, from there we take the train to the Devil´s Nose, as the Ecuadorians call it. In zig-zag it goes downhill and uphill again. Early in the afternoon we continue southwards. Depending on the time of the day we stop briefly in Ingapirca, one of the few inca sites in Ecuador. In the evening we reach Cuenca. Overnight in the ***Hotel Victoria (or same type).

Day 5

Zugfahrt zur Teufelsnase - Ingapirca - Cuenca

Morgens fahren wir zum Bahnhof von Alausí. Von dort nehmen wir die "Andenbahn" entlang der Teufelsnase - Nariz del Diablo, wie sie die Ecuadorianer nennen. Im Zick-Zack geht es bergab und wieder bergauf. Am frühen Nachmittag fahren wir weiter in Richtung Süden. Je nach Tageszeit stoppen wir kurz in Ingapirca, einer der wenigen Inkastätten in Ecuador. Spät abends erreichen wir Cuenca. Übernachtung im Hostal Ines Maria (oder gleichwertig).

Day 6

Visit the city of Cuenca

Today we take the entire day through the beautiful city of Cuenca - a cultural metropolis in southern Ecuador. The cozy and nostalgic atmosphere stands out for cobblestone sidewalks, colorful flower markets and noble facades with their ornate iron balconies. In the afternoon, enjoy the city on your own. Overnight in the ***Hotel Victoria (or same type).

Day 7

Hike through the Cajas National Park

Nowadays you can reach the Cajas National Park. Approximately 200 lagoons extend to an altitude of 3150-4450 meters. After a short walk we head for a pass to Guayaquil. On the way you will experience the magnificent change of vegetation of 4,000 meters at sea level. Arrival in Guayaquil is in the afternoon.
