Day 1
Urubamba – km104 – Chachabamba – Wiñayhuayna – Machu Picchu
You start early in the morning in the direction of the Sacred Valley and take one of the first trains from Ollantaytambo station (approx. 06.00 hrs). After a journey of around 1.5 hours, you reach kilometer 104, where our passports and tickets are checked (must be originals, copies are not accepted) and registered at the checkpoint. Then we set off on the Inca Trail, past the archaeological site of Chachabamba and further uphill to the archaeological complex of Wiñayhuayna (2650 m). After the approx. 3-hour walk, you have earned a break and will have time to rest here. After lunch, freshly fortified, you walk on to the famous sun gate, the Inti Punku. From here you can enjoy one of the classic views of Machu Picchu and take your first impressive souvenir photos. You then continue to the next checkpoint, from where you take the shuttle bus down to the village of Aguas Calientes. Overnight stay in Aguas Calientes.
Day 2
Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu ruins
After breakfast, you will travel by bus to the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu. Your guide will take you on a two-hour tour of the Inca city. Afterwards, you will have time to explore the site on your own. In the early afternoon, you will drive back to Aguas Calientes, where you will spend another night at the Hotel Sol.
Day 3
Hike to Montaña Machu Picchu
After breakfast, take the bus to the entrance of the Inca ruins and start the ascent to Montaña Machu Picchu at 9 am. The hike takes about two hours (altitude difference 652 meters). Afterwards, you can stay in the Inca ruins for a further four hours.
Important information: In addition to your ticket, you will also need your passport to register for the trail.
Trip back to Cusco
You should start the return journey to Aguas Calientes at 2 pm. The train leaves for Ollantaytambo at 4 pm. From there, take the bus to Cusco, where you will arrive at around 7 pm.
