Guango Lodge, Papallacta

3.0* Hotel

Calling all nature lovers, bird lovers and photographers

Your Travel Experience with Galapagos PRO

The English translation of the Quichua word guango is quite a mouthful: "a place of great mountains that crisscross, whose waters converge to form mighty rivers in deep valleys covered by the cloud forest of the Andean slopes, under an ever-changing climate and a typical drizzle."

Just an hour drive from the Quito Airport, Guango Lodge is situated right in the midst of a cloud forest and is a hummingbird gala. The simple but comfortable lodge is a paradise for hummingbird lovers and photographers thanks to the lodge's own orchid garden. The indigenous species of these luxuriant flowers are in bloom year round, attracting many species of hummingbird as well as the hundreds of indigenous birds that call the Andean slopes home.

Each simple, charming room includes a private bathroom and tea and coffee making facilities. Stay cozy with the hot water bottles and fireplaces.

Socially responsible travellers will be pleased to learn of the extensive conservation and commuity support initiatives undertaken by Guango Lodge.

Guango remains a necessary stop along the traditional route from Quito to the Napo River. As part of the Papallacta region, Guango is the central point between the cloud forest and Andean highlands and also between the Amazonian ethnic groups and Quito.
