Hike along the North Coast – Anakena

Experience the wild and remote side of Easter Island on a full-day hike along the northern coast to the famous beach of Anakena. The route passes largely untouched coastal landscapes with volcanic cliffs, secluded bays, caves, petroglyphs and archaeological remains of former settlements. Depending on the starting point and route, the hike covers approximately 14–16 km and takes around 5–7 hours. The terrain is predominantly natural, grassy and partly rocky or uneven, with little shade and long sections without infrastructure. The hike requires good basic fitness and is accompanied by a local guide. The trek concludes at Anakena, one of the island’s most beautiful bays, with its white sandy beach and the impressive moai of Ahu Nau Nau.
