Trekking in the Pululahua crater

Pululahua is located above an active volcano and the soil is therefore very rich in minerals. The soils are very fertile and productive, so the place has been in great demand for over 500 years and there are numerous agricultural terraces. It has hiking trails and recreational areas that are excellent for walks while enjoying spectacular views of the crater and caldera of Pululahua Volcano.

In the Pululahua Biological Reserve you can go hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, cooking and other adventurous activities. So if you are looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is the best place for you because you can be in direct contact with nature. The entrance fee to the Pululahua Reserve is 2 USD.

In addition, Pululahua Quito is home to a great diversity of species. There are more than 144 species of birds, such as the black-breasted hawk and several species of hummingbirds. Mammals include the bog wolves, small deer and armadillos.

You can comfortably travel the entire distance from Quito by cab or take a bus to Mitad del Mundo and take one of the many cabs for the last part of the trip.
