Horseback riding to the salt mines
This activity starts in a ranch in the Pichingoto Community. There you will review basic riding instructions and you will have the opportunity to get to know your horse.
The excursion starts by following a pre-Incan path that ascends up the side of a mountain. This path will lead you to the Salineras salt mines, where you will have a spectacular view of over 5,000 salt ponds. You will learn how the members of the community extract the salt using artisanal techniques that have been transmitted from generation to generation even before the Inca times.
You will go around the salt mines to observe how water from a subterranean saltwater spring is distributed through a complex system of channels to thousands of pools.
