Tour/Activity in Quito, Ecuador

About this activity

Experience authentic Ecuadorian cuisine with a market visit followed by a cooking class

Your Travel Experience with Galapagos PRO

Meeting Point - Restaurant Altamira

Get to know your Ecuadorean chef over a welcome drink while he outlines the day's schedule and what to expect.

The Local Market

Together with the chef, pay a visit to the local market. There you will find fresh, locally grown fruit and vegetables and learn what is typical for Ecuadorean cuisine. The ingredients for your cooking class are purchased at the market before you head back to the restaurant. On the way, you will pass through the Spanish-colonial district.

Don Your Chef Hat

Before the cooking class begins, you will be given a chef’s hat, an apron and a mini recipe book with the three traditional Ecuadorean dishes that you will be trying your hand at: Locro Quiteño, Encocado and a chocolate soup.

These three recipes were chosen because the ingredients used can be found all over the world, allowing you to share the experience with friends and family back home. During the cooking class you will become the chef - get ready to peel, cut, season and mix like the experts. The chef will be there guiding you, and as the cooking class develops, he will give further explanation and more details about the history of each dish.

Lunch at a colonial heritage

When your meal is prepared, you'll have the pleasure of sampling your home-cooked meals in a special location - a typical courtyard of a colonial house.

Bon appétit!
