Day 1
Drive to the Colca Canyon
Early in the morning (07:30) you start your approximately five-hour drive to the Colca Valley. On the way, with a bit of luck, you can admire the rare vicuñas, the protected relatives of the llamas. You will also get to know the special features of the Colca Valley during many shorter stops, enjoy the unique view of the valley and visit various villages typical of this region. To help you get used to the altitude (highest point 4,820 m), you will be served a cup of coca tea. This is a traditional Peruvian drink that is said to have many health-promoting properties. In the afternoon, your guide will take you on a short hike and then you can relax with a visit to the natural thermal springs before you are taken to your accommodation. Overnight stay at the Hotel Mamayacchi.
Day 2
Cross of the Condor and return to Arequipa
Today you have to get up early to see the king of the Andes, the condor, one of Peru's landmarks, in its natural habitat. If the weather conditions are favorable, the condors often rise out of the canyon just a few meters away from you to go hunting. Afterwards, you will hike along the edge of the canyon for approx. 1 hour and continue to the "Antahuilque" viewpoint, from where you will have a very good view of pre-Inca terraces that are more than 1,500 years old. In the late afternoon, you will return to Arequipa, where you will arrive at around 4.00 pm.
