Visit of the archaeological ruins of Kuelap
Your guide will pick you up at your hotel and drive one hour through the Utcubamba Valley. The city only consists of 3 entrance, in which all pass through narrow walled alleys. This was done to protect the city from enemies. Recently, a comfortable cable car was built to save you the hike and bring you directly up to the city where the "Cloud People" - the Chachapoyas, lived. The cable car also offers you an incredible view of the landscape surrounding the archaeological complex.
The fortified city of Kuelap belongs to the Chachapoyas and was strategically built on a mountain ridge on the left bank of the Utcubamba valley (3030 meters above sea levels). Kuelap is extraordinary for their gigantic walls that reach 20 meters high forming circular structures hosting platforms between houses and temples.
Your guide will tell you everything about the Chachapoyas culture and their way of life in this area before coming back down for lunch.
After the tour, your guide will drop you off at your hotel.
