Your Travel Experience with Galapagos PRO
In the municipality of Silva Jardim, two hours away from Rio de Janeiro, you will find the home to the largest population of Golden Lion Tamarins in Brazil. This endangered species is a symbol of the Atlantic Forest, its natural habitat.
The Golden Lion Tamarin Association carries out successful work in preserving these animals and welcomes visitors interested in learning about their work and getting a close look at these little creatures.
The tour takes place in an area of native forest where three families of tamarins live. With luck, it will be possible to see one of these families and learn from the guides of the AMLD who lead the tour.
Visitors have the opportunity to get up close and personal with our headquarters and embark on a fascinating journey through time with an exhibition on the history of Golden Lion Tamarin conservation. They can explore our trails and admire the successful Ecological Restoration Tower, which aims to connect fragments of the Atlantic Forest lowlands, as well as the Viaduct Lookout, offering a privileged view of Brazil's first vegetated viaduct on federal highways.
During this visit, we also have the option to explore their areas dedicated to agroecology and restoration.
Afterward, we will have lunch at a nearby farm called Fazenda dos Cordeiros, where you can enjoy homemade food cooked on a wood-burning stove.
