The authentic market of Zumbahua
Galapagos PRO recommendation: A certain extra for your Ecuador experience.
The indigenous community of Zumbahuas is located 67 km from Latacunga. During the trip you will pass the typical small villages of Pujili, La Victoria and Tigua until you reach Zumbahua. The Zumbahua Community is known for its traditional crafts. Thus, a typical feature for them is that they paint their paintings on sheep's skin. Also making masks is a specialty from here. Another artisan branch is wickerwork made in ornate handwork by women. Especially on Saturdays there is a big hustle and bustle, which besides the typical mountain market offerings such as horse- and lama trade, you can also purchase local wood carvings. This market is not very touristy, so you have the opportunity to experience a typical day in the life of the indigenous people. You will, for example, be able to observe women who are balancing their goods on their heads or transporting them on their back of llamas.
This is a recommended excursion, which is not included in the price.
