Unique train journey to the Devil's Nose

The journey begins at Alausí railway station and winds its way along the steep rock faces of the 'Nariz del Diablo' (Devil's Nose) mountain. During the journey from Alausí to Sibambe, you will witness the spectacular descent of around 500 metres over a distance of less than 12 kilometres. Building this Trans-Andean railway between 1899 and 1908 was a major challenge, and it is considered an engineering masterpiece. To cope with the altitude differences, the tracks zigzag along the mountain. This route remains very impressive to this day. Enjoy the breathtaking descent and the view of the narrow Chanchán River valley. Once you have conquered the altitude, visit the Sibambe train station to learn more about the local culture. Then it's back up the steep mountain to the Alausí railway station.
