Visit Otavalo and Surroundings
Depart from Quito via the Panamericana and via Cayambe. On the way, make a short stop in Guachalá to discover the Monument to the Equator. Here, we recommend you taste the delicious Bizcochos de Cayambe. Bizcochos are a special type of local cracker baked in a clay oven. They taste especially delicious with homemade cheese or caramel sauce.
After this, head along to Miralago, a lookout high above the San Pablo Lake. The view of the surroundings is magical and really should not be missed.
The next stop is the famous local markets of Otavalo in the central Plaza de Ponchos, where traditionally dressed indigenous townspeople sell colourful textiles and handicrafts. The market is home to a variety of different handmade products - the perfect spot if you're on the hunt for the ideal souvenir.
You can choose between a longer stay in Otavalo or a visit to the famous leather shops in Cotacachi. At the end of the day, we will return to Quito.
