Day 1

Departure from Quito

Our two-day trip is a wonderful way to become acquainted with the unique environment of the cloud forest so close to Quito. The unique stay offers a lofty paradise surrounded by countless hummingbirds and a flourishing expanse of lush forests. You will enjoy gourmet food, fabulous views of the forest and mountains, and an extensive network of safe and well-marked trails.

Day One: A 6:30am departure from your hotel in Quito City (Special fees may apply for pick ups and drop offs at the Quito Airport or hotels nearby) Leaving Quito, you take a scenic mountain route until you reach the top of the mountain, where Bellavista lodge is perched. Settle into your room and enjoy your breakfast as you watch the hummingbirds play.

After a tasty lunch, you can take a guided hike with a Bellavista naturalist, or explore the forest on your own. A guided hike will acquaint you with the bird life and lush vegetation, including the endemic orchids, bromeliads and ferns that colour the cloud forest floor. Here, you can learn about the fascinating adaptations to life in this special environment.

The evening is relaxed; we recommend taking your time to admire the incredible variety of moths, many of which are unknown to science. You can also look for night birds such as the Common Potoo.

Day 2

Bird walk, hikes and waterfalls

Day Two: After a refreshing night’s sleep, we take an early bird watching hike in the serene morning light. At 8am, your special Bellavista breakfast is served. Afterward, we encourage you to explore on your own, or go with a guide to one of the property's four waterfalls. Every hike reveals something new, even for those who are fortunate enough to live in the forest every day.

Lunch is served at 1pm, and afterward, you choose whether you want to take a short hike or just relax while enjoying the flight and activity of the hummingbirds.

We expect to arrive back in Quito at around 5pm.
