Galapagos PRO recommendation: This excursion should not be missed in your Ecuador experience!

On an exposed hill east of Otavalo is the Parque Cóndor (Condor Park), a breeding and rescue station for birds of prey - eagle owls and condors. Currently, only about 40 wild condors live in Ecuador. For many years, biologists and bird conservationists in Ecuador have been fighting for protection programs, and breeding offspring in order to preserve this special native species. Around 70 animals currently live in the Condor Park, rescued from captivity, injury or disease. Through this important project, more than 100 animals have been reintroduced to the wild in recent years.

The condor is the heaviest bird of prey, weighing up to 15 kilograms, and is one of only few birds whose wingspan can exceed 3 meters. There are several flying shows with those impressive animals daily at the park (11:30, 15:30). From Condor Park you have a beautiful view of the valley around the town of Otavalo, including the lake San Pablo.

Note: This is a recommended excursion that is not included in the tour price.
