Archeology site Xcambó

Xcambó is located on the Laguna Rosada near the Gulf Coast. Today it is home to Mayan ruins, a Catholic church and several freshwater springs. Between 100 BC and 600 AD, the Mayan city played an important role, supplying Izamal, Uxmal and Chichén-Itzá with salt and protein-rich foods from fish and seafood. To this day, salt is extracted in the area.
