Your Travel Experience with Galapagos PRO
Visit the tortoise breeding station Fausto Llerena
Visit the Fausto Llerena breeding station at the Charles Darwin Station. You can reach it after a short walk along the promenade of Puerto Ayora. Since March 2017, the embalmed tortoise Lonesome George, which has become a symbol of the Galapagos Islands, has been on display at the Fauto Llerena breeding station. On the “Ruta de las Tortugas”, you will learn about the history of tortoises on the Galapagos and then visit the breeding station - from the incubator to the large mother animals from various islands. There is also a garden with examples of the conservation of the plant world.
Beach Tortuga Bay
The path to the beautiful sandy beach leads about 2.5 km through a dry forest. You walk past lava lizards and hear the song of the mockingbird. You will reach the beach after half an hour's walk. You must sign in with the park ranger at the entrance and sign out again afterwards. It is not permitted to spend the night on the beach. There is a black lava peninsula on the beach. Blue-footed boobies and marine iguanas live here, which are almost impossible to spot due to their darker color. At the end of the beach you will find the path to a quiet bay. Here you can swim without hesitation and even hire kayaks to get even closer to the large rays and sea turtles.
