Day 1

Cotopaxi National Park and Limpiopungo

Your journey along the famous Avenue of Volcanoes begins early in the morning in Quito. Cotopaxi National Park and the Limpiopungo lagoon will be your first port of call. Cotopaxi is the highest active volcano in the world - we recommend enjoying the breathtaking panorama during an easy walk. Your next stop is the gorgeous Quilotoa Lagoon. Take a short hike around the caledra with a view over the sparkling lagoon below.

Afterwards we stop at Hacienda Cienega, which was visited by Alexander von Humboldt, then taste guinea pigs from the grill at the traditional market of Latacunga or Ambato. We continue along the Avenue of Volcanoes to Baños.

Overnight in the 3* Hotel Selina (or equivalent).

Day 2

Baños and Surroundings

The lively town of Baños is located at the foot of the Tungurahua Volcano. Since 1998 the Tungurahua has been active and regularly spitting lava and ash. For visitors, this is a spectacular view.

Baños has Spring weather throughout the year. The city center offers many artisan shops, small restaurants and sweets from local sugar cane. From Baños you can take a trip to Puyo, the gateway to the Ecuadorean rainforest to meet the shaman and Shuar chief Tzamarenda Naychapi. Taste the typical food from the community one lunch before experiencing a traditional cleansing ritual at a waterfall.

In the late afternoon we return to Baños.

Overnight in the 3* Hotel Selina (or equivalent).

Day 3

Hike at the volcano Chimborazo

A walk at the foot of the majestic extinct volcano, Chimborazo, reveals a magnificent view of the mountain's summit. Chimborazo is known to have fascinated the famous natural scientist Alexander von Humboldt over 200 years ago.

In the afternoon we continue to Riobamba. Overnight in the 3* Hotel Hacienda Abraspungo (or equivalent).

Day 4

Devil's Nose, Ingapirca and Cuenca

From the train station of Alausí, take the Andean Railway along the Devil's Nose - locally knows as Nariz del Diablo. Zigzagging downhill and uphill again, revealing enchanting and impressive landscapes.

Early in the afternoon we continue southwards. Depending on the time of the day we stop briefly in Ingapirca, one of the few inca sites in Ecuador. In the evening we reach Cuenca.

Overnight in the 3* Hotel Cuenca Suites (or equivalent).

Day 5

Visit the city of Cuenca

Dedicate the day to the beautiful city of Cuenca - the cultural capital of southern Ecuador. Cobblestone sidewalks, city squares adorned with flowers and gracious façades with ornate iron balconies inspire a cozy, nostalgic atmosphere.

Overnight in the 3* Hotel Cuenca Suites (or equivalent).

Day 6

Hike through the Cajas National Park

Wind your way through the gorgeous Cajas National Park, driving from 4,200 meters to sea level over the course of an hour. Arguably the most picturesque of Ecuador's National Parks, this beautiful area cannot be accurately described with words alone.

Explore Guayaquil in the evening.
