Indian market in Otavalo
After breakfast the trip starts in Quito through Panamericana highway heading north to Cayambe. On the way, there is a short stop in Guachalá where you can see the ancient equatorial Monument and taste the traditional “Bizcochos de Cayambe” which are a kind of biscuits baked in a clay oven. The next stop is “Miralago” where one can see Lago San Pablo. The view of the surrounding area is great. Later we continue to Otavalo to visit the indian market which offers a great variety of handmade products and where you can walk and get some souvenirs. Overnight at the beautiful Hacienda Pinsaquí located at the food of Volcán Imbabura.
Cuicocha Lagoon - Hot springs in Papallacta
In the morning we drive to the beautiful Laguna Cuicocha where we will go on an excursion to the crater border and enjoy a wonderful view of the lake and its surroundings.
Afterwards and before continuing to Papallacta, we make a detour to Peguche waterfalls, this is a breathtaking ride, the vegetation changes constantly. After around one and a half hour by car we reach a high point where enthusiastic hickers can take a two hour walk with a view of Volcán Antisana and down to Papallacta; otherwise we can all go to Papallacta. Once there , you will get your rooms and have time to bath extensively in the hot springs. Overnight at the Guango Lodge.
On the road of the volcanoes to the Chimborazo
Early in the morning, we take a walk through the mountain fog to see many hummingbirds. After breakfast, our journey starts along the famous "road of the volcanoes" towards the south. Our first stop is Cotopaxi National Park and the Lagoon Limpiopungo. The Cotopaxi is the highest active volcano in the world. We will enjoy the breathtaking panoramic tour. Afterwards we drive to the Quilotoa lagoon to make a short hike. Late afternoon we continue along the same road of the volcanoes to Chimborazo Lodge, located at the foot of Chimborazo Mountain, the highest mountain of Ecuador. Overnight at Chimborazo Lodge.
Hike on the volcano Chimborazo - Devil's nose
Early in the morning we take a walk at the foot of the majestic Chimborazo Mountain to enjoy the great view of the top of the mountain, which already fascinated Alexander von Humboldt. Afterwards we will go to the station of Alausí. Where we will take the "Andean train" along the Devil´s Nose - Nariz del Diablo, as the ecuadorians call it. It goes downhill in zig-zag and uphill again. In the afternoon we continue south to Cuenca. Depending on the time of the day, we can take a short stop at Ingapirca ruins. Overnight at Hotel Victoria.
Visit the city of Cuenca - drive to Guayaquil
Today we take full morning for the beautiful city of Cuenca - the cultural metropolis in the south of Ecuador. The cozy and nostalgic atmosphere is underscored by the cobblestone pavement, flower-bedecked squares and noble facades with their ornate iron balconies. In the afternoon we drive over Cajas National Park to Guayaquil. This breathtaking trail winds down at an altitude of 4,200 meters, it is a real great natural drama.
