Visit the famous Inca ruin Machu Picchu
In the morning, your diver will collect your from the hotel and deliver you to the train station in Poroy or Ollantaytambo. Catch your train to the most fantastic ruin complex in all of South America, passing little villages in the wonderful landscape of the Urubamba Valley. Connect in Aguas Calientes to your shuttle bus up to Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu is an Inca city surrounded by temples, terraces and canals, built on top of a mountain. The structure was built of mighty blocks of stone that stick together without mortar. Today, the site is considered a World Heritage Site, and is recognised as having been an important political, religious and administrative center of the Inca period.
Overnight at Hostal Panorama B&B in Aguas Calientes or for an extra charge (please select) at *** Hotel El Mapi, ****Hotel Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo or ***** Belmond Sanctuary Lodge.
Return to Machu Piccu and train back to Cusco
Today offers a second opportunity to explore Machu Picchu, this time on your own schedule. We recommend grabbing an early breakfast and driving up to the ruins directly afterwards - with a bit of luck you can explore Machu Picchu before the first tourists arrive by train from Cusco or Ollantaytambo. For the more ambitious, we recommend an ascent of the Huayna Picchus (tickets must be bought in advance), or a walk to the Sonnentor Inti Punko, a former checkpoint from where you can enjoy a magnificent view of Machu Picchu. In the afternoon, take the shuttle bus back to Aguas Calientes to take your train back to Poroy or Oallantaytambo. At the station you will be met and taken to your hotel in Cusco.
